December 2009

  • Alexa Vom Haus McKienzie is back home at McKienzie Farm: Adopted in 2007, Alexa's family decided to relinquish ownership back over to McKienzie Farm. Due to job changes and time retraints they felt unable to give her the attention she needs and deserves.  Alexa will remain with us here and has already become best friends and play buddies with her brother Alejandro. We are glad to have this beautiful little girl back with us safe and sound.

  • After a vaccine reaction 2 years ago, Lina (Liesa) has had a couple (as in two)  episodes of hairloss and systemic yeast infections which were treated, resolved, but later returned.  Extensive bloodwork has now confirmed that she has developed a hypothyroid condition.  She is now on the proper thyroid medication and in time we hope her thyroid will be able to continue to function without the need for the daily medicine. She is on her way to recovery and is in good spirits

  • Alejandro has become playmate to all of the girls with his primary playmates being Alexa, Bella, and Peanut

  • Diego is doing well though has shown some signs of nerve infringement where he once fractured his spine in rubble training. An occasional hind end weakness and twice paralysis has been noted, but has not been a limiting factor in his day to day activities. The episodes lasted just under 60 seconds and then he was back to normal.  We will continue to monitor this, but as of now his favorite activity is still leaping and swimming in the pool along with our evening walks. He is still as driven as ever and would love to still be doing search work (don't say the word to him). We let him do wilderness now, but no rubble anymore for his own good.

  • Lady has handled the loss of her mate Pacco well. She did not sulk for too long as she continued to be playmates with her son Brando. Brando had always gone out to play with his mom and dad...a picture I meant to get, but now it's too late. :o(

  • Everyone else is doing well too!  They are all healthy and happy.  I finally found a great meat based, grain free diet that works for all 9 dogs. I have had great success with it and highly recommend Taste Of the Wild, High Prairie formula (bison and venison). Just don't ask me about the monthly dog food bill!!!
